How can you tell a legitimate work at home job from a scam?

If there is one thing that I repeatedly hear, it’s the question, How can you tell a legitimate work at home job from a scam?

Well, it is very easy to find out if a company is legitimate.  You have to do your research or due diligence.  One of the first things you should look at, is how long the company has been in business.  You should only work with a company that has a proven track record of at least 7-10 years with consistent growth.

Know that there are no “get rich quick” jobs.  I think that is the biggest misconception  about people looking for at home careers.  They tend to forget that first word in “work at home.”  A legitimate work at home position will require “Work”  you are going to get out what you put in.

There are legitimate companies where you can indeed acquire a tremendous income and have residual income for life, but you have to work hard to make that happen.  Not everyone has what it takes to make it to the top, but if you have the drive, skills, determination and put that time in, you can realize your dreams of financial freedom and security, get out of debt and spend more time with your family.

Remember when you are doing your research that every company will have some unsatisfied customers and employees.  You need to evaluate the percentage in contrast with the number of employees the company does have, and the numbers of customers that spend their money with the company.

So if you see an ad for stuffing envelopes that promises you $1000.00 a week, you can bet that there is something fishy.  Also if companies ask you for a big investment that is a red flag.  Now of course many independent consultants need to purchase products or a start-up kit in order to do demonstrations, even fast food employees must buy a uniform.  I am not talking about such fees, if a company asks you to invest several hundred dollars for a position assembling products that is a red flag.

Another question you need to ask yourself is, does the company wants to see you succeed?  Do they offer free training, do they give new employees support, do they have resources to help you get started?

Bottom line is that yes, there are legitimate jobs where you can earn enough money to replace your income, pay off debt and have financial security for life.  Just do your research, evaluate the sources, check the company with the BBB, chamber of commerce etc.

Don’t let negative people get you down, like I said, there are always going to be those who did not cut it and they want to attribute their failure to a flawed company.  The most important thing is to work hard your first year and don’t give up.  Even if you have a rough start, if you stick with it and work hard you will have success.

Let the older or gray dogs in the company train you, listen to those who are successful, duplicate what they do.  Take direction and be coachable and open, if you do this you will likely be one of the gray dogs several years down the road.  If you bolt the first time you face rejection, you are going to flounder.

Remember do your research, and when you find a good company then you need to commit to do the best job you can and stick with it.  If you start to get down, tell your  company mentors, they will probably help you feel better by sharing stories just like yours and look where they are now.
